My first day at my first secondary school, Kent Ridge Secondary, started with warm welcomes from unfamiliar faces who turned out to be the student councilors of the school. They directed me to the school hall which was filled with more and more unfamiliar faces. I was lead to my class, 1e3, where I sat down behind two boys who kept chattering away. They interacted with me by asking me my name and introducing themselves. Their names were Aditya and Ahmad Faiz and they were from Jin Tai Primary which was just beside Kent Ridge Secondary.
The day started with a long and boring speech from Ms Chamb, our principal. Right after the long speech, a group of councilors brought us to our classes. The classroom was neat and tidy, and our form teacher, Ms Karina Heng, talked to us about appointing a class chair-person. During the talk by Ms Heng, I made three new friends, Johan, Shi Hao and Shao Wen. As Johan was a huge guy, I was quite afraid of him at first until I found out that he was very friendly.
I still remember when I first stood beside him, it was like standing beside an overgrown gorilla. The other two boys, Shi Hao and Shao Wen were quite tall too. The councilors brought us around the school premises for a quick school tour. The tour was quite boring as I had nothing to do until, Shao wen got to meet Shi Hao. Shi Hao tricked Shao Wen by saying his name was Kelvin. I giggled as soon as I heard their conversation.
Only during the ice-breakers, which was after the tour, did Shao Wen find out Shi Hao’s real name as we had to introduce ourselves. I continued to laugh at Shao Wen as he continued to hit Shi Hao. The ice-Breakers introduced us to many other friends and the ice-breakers were enjoyable.
After school had ended, we had a lame mass dance which not really many people including me wanted to dance. But we joined in unwillingly and then started to get the hang of the dance and found it interesting. Therefore, Johan and I dreamed of being a councilor as we will be able to join in more of these kind of fun activities.
